Top external service providers for master data management

“MDM is a complex undertaking that requires active participation from a broad range of constituents in the enterprise,” notes Gartner Group in its recent study “Market Guide for MDM external services providers.” To aid organizations in the process of selecting a partner, the firm has provided insights on 32 leading players in this space.

Affecto

“Affecto is a Finland-based consulting firm that provides MDM services to EMEA-based clients as part of its analytics, big data, and enterprise information management (EIM) practice,” Gartner writes. “The majority of its recent MDM experience is with smaller organizations. Affecto has formal MDM partnerships with Informatica and Microsoft. It has recent MDM implementation experience with Informatica MDM and Informatica Product 360, as well as Microsoft MDS.”

Amplifi

“Amplifi is a specialist consulting firm focused on digital transformation; it supports MDM engagements through its information management practice,” according to Gartner. “The majority of its recent MDM experience is with large enterprises, although it has also done some recent work with midsize and small organizations. Amplifi has formal MDM partnerships with EnterWorks, Informatica, inRiver, Riversand, SAP Hybris and Stibo Systems, and has recent MDM implementation experience with EnterWorks, Informatica Product 360, inRiver, Riversand, SAP Hybris and Stibo Systems.”

AST

“AST is a U.S.-based specialist consulting firm focused on application and information management, with a distinct MDM practice area,” Gartner says. “The majority of its recent MDM experience is with large enterprises, although it has also done some recent work with midsize organizations. AST has created frameworks to optimize MDM implementation for environments such as marketing and omni-channel sales, a maturity model-based delivery framework for MDM, assessment and facilitation templates for information governance, and frameworks for specific use cases of Oracle DRM.”

BackOffice Associates

“BackOffice Associates is a solution provider of data stewardship platforms and applications, including two software products that are sold both directly and through a value-added reseller (VAR) agreement with SAP,” Gartner says. “BackOffice Associates has developed configuration for roles, tasks and processes to HR (aka human capital management), materials, customers, vendors, and FICO scores in many industries including retail, oil/gas/chemical, high-tech, industrial/discrete, consumer goods, manufacturing, life sciences, financial services, distribution, power/utilities and automotive.”

Business & Decision

“Business & Decision is a global system integrator (SI) with practices in most data and analytics disciplines, as well as customer experience (CX),” Gartner says. “It has recent MDM implementation experience with IBM (InfoSphere MDM Advanced and Enterprise Editions), Informatica (Informatica MDM, MDM Cloud Edition, Cloud Customer 360 and Product 360), Information Builders, Microsoft MDS, Oracle (Siebel UCM, Customer Hub EBS and Product Hub EBS), Orchestra Networks, SAS MDM, SAP Hybris, Semarchy Convergence, Talend MDM, Teradata MDM and TIBCO MDM.”

Camelot ITLab

“As part of Camelot International Consulting Group, Camelot ITLab is a specialist IT consultancy firm offering MDM services under its broader information management portfolio of services, which also has data quality management and IT governance and organization services,” Gartner writes. “The majority of its recent MDM experience is with large enterprises, although it has also carried out substantial recent MDM work for midsize firms. The company has a formal alliance and recent MDM implementation experience with SAP (MDG-C, MDG-M, MDG-F, MDG-S and NetWeaver MDM).”

Capgemini

“Capgemini is a global consulting, technology and outsourcing firm that performs MDM as part of the solution portfolio of its insights and data practice,” Gartner writes. “The majority of its recent MDM experience is with large enterprises, although it has also carried out some recent MDM work with small and midsize firms. Capgemini has developed industry-specific MDM solutions for capital markets, insurance, telecommunications (a geospatial hierarchy solution), pharmaceuticals, banking and automotive manufacturing.”

Cognizant

“Cognizant has developed industry-specific MDM solutions for life sciences, financial services, healthcare and retail vertical sectors, as well as solutions for cloud-based MDM, social data integration with MDM and financial reference data management for multiline business enterprises,” Gartner says. “It has also developed accelerators for MDM assessment and roadmap development, business case development, data governance strategy, requirement analysis, data quality strategy, data stewardship UI development, MDM vendor software solution evaluation and MDM implementation testing.”

Datum

Datum is an EIM strategy firm, with technology assets and methodologies in the information management discipline and an emphasis on information governance,” Gartner says. “The majority of its MDM experience is with large global manufacturing enterprises in North America. The company has also developed a content package for consumer packaged goods product transparency (based on its horizontally focused information value management platform) that assists in documenting and tracking the business impact and the value of information management programs.”

Deloitte

“Deloitte is a global consulting and advisory firm that performs MDM and information governance engagements under the umbrella of its enterprise data management practice within its broader IT services portfolio,” Gartner says. “Deloitte has developed tools to prioritize the delivery of MDM solutions, which include a business value prioritization framework, a digital customer 360 data management solution framework, MDM process models and MDM data models, as well as an enterprise data-governance framework and an operating model.”

Entity Group

“Entity Group is a specialist consulting firm providing EIM advisory services, and MDM and information governance solutions within the larger set of information management offerings, including metadata and reference data solutions,” Gartner writes. “Entity Group has developed several "single view" products based on IBM InfoSphere MDM Standard Edition for the public and private sectors (particularly central/local government and financial services/insurance), as well as a component to mask sensitive citizen data for local government solutions.”

First San Francisco Partners

“First San Francisco Partners is a specialist strategy consulting firm concentrating on information management,” Gartner says. “The majority of its recent MDM experience is with large enterprises, but it also has some recent experience with midsize and small firms. First San Francisco Partners has recent MDM implementation experience with Informatica MDM, Microsoft MDS and Markit EDM. The company has developed proprietary methodologies for MDM and information governance assessment, strategy and agile-based implementations.”

HCL Technologies

“HCL Technologies is a global SI with an MDM practice housed within its larger business analytics solutions division,” Gartner notes. “HCL Technologies has developed frameworks for data assessment and information model creation, and has created industry-agnostic accelerators for data quality and automated MDM testing. Based on Informatica, it has developed a rapid implementation toolkit, a unified monitoring and data governance dashboard, a product information management (PIM) maturity assessment framework and a customer data facility to support mergers and acquisitions.”

HighPoint Solutions

“HighPoint Solutions is a U.S.-based specialist consulting firm that concentrates on application and information management for life sciences clients (particularly in the pharmaceutical industry), as well as the healthcare industry,” Gartner explains. “HighPoint offers cloud-based hosted managed services for both MDM and data stewardship via formal partnership with Informatica's MDM and Cloud Customer 360 solutions, and maintains MDM partnerships with Oracle, Reltio and Talend. These solutions are available as single-tenant or multitenant private cloud, or multitenant public cloud implementations.”

Hub Designs

“Hub Designs is a specialist global management and technology consulting firm focused on MDM and information governance,” Gartner says. “Hub Designs has developed MDM-specific templates and deliverables for MDM education, current state assessment, strategic roadmap development, software selection and business case development for the customer/party and product data domains, and for the financial services, software/high-tech, life sciences, business services and manufacturing industries.”

IBM Global Business Services

“IBM Global Business Services is a global SI with an information management practice that includes MDM and information governance,” Gartner says. “The company has developed MDM assets covering most domains and industries. These include estimation models, strategic roadmaps for information governance and data quality, data mapping, data masking, tool selection and consolidation, party management, CDI, business interview guides, industry use cases testing and validation templates.”

InforData Consulting

“InforData Consulting is an EMEA-based specialist consulting firm concentrating on data integration, MDM, data migration, data governance and data quality,” Gartner says. “The company has developed a data governance framework that can be adjusted to any customer's requirements with some modifications. This framework is currently in use within the retail, public sector, housing, and oil verticals. The charter includes roles and responsibilities, processes and metrics. InforData has also been able to devise an MDM framework linking data governance and data quality as a service.”

Infosys

“Infosys is a global consulting and system integration service provider catering to information management including MDM and information governance, Gartner writes. “Infosys has created several MDM tools in partnership with MDM software vendors, including performance enhancements, reporting tools, a governance model, and a reference architecture and Page 18 of 35 Gartner, Inc. | G00302564 data model framework for Informatica MDM, as well as an integration framework, XML converter and product data model for Stibo System's Step.”

InfoTrellis

“InfoTrellis is a specialist consulting firm concentrating on MDM, Gartner notes. “InfoTrellis has also developed an MDM implementation methodology, as well as products that monitor the ongoing quality of hub master data, provide performance and operational monitoring, perform mastering of big data sources and provide a 360-degree view of the customer. It has also developed MDM analytics and MDM testing tools, as well as process and governance templates. InfoTrellis also offers an MDM managed service offering, with end-to-end services and support for both on-premises and cloud-based MDM.”

“Infoverity is a specialist consulting firm concentrating on MDM and information governance,” Gartner explains. “Infoverity has developed industry-centric starter templates for party and product solutions for the retail, wholesale distribution, publishing, financial services, healthcare and other industries, as well as reference data. It has created framework assets to accelerate MDM solutions' time-to-value and to reduce project risk. Infoverity offers hosting through national providers and managed services for their clients for MDM and PIM solutions.”

Jibes

“Jibes is an EMEA-focused specialist consulting firm that concentrates on a partnership with IBM for the InfoSphere and Watson product portfolios,” Gartner says. “The vast majority of its recent MDM experience is with large organizations. Jibes' recent implementation experience is focused on the InfoSphere MDM Collaborative Edition solution for MDM of product data, but it also has recent MDM implementation experience with the Standard, Advanced and Enterprise Edition solutions for MDM of customer data.”

Knowledgent

“Knowledgent is a data and analytics consultancy that provides MDM strategy and implementation services under its broader offering of strategy and engineering services,” Gartner writes. “Knowledgent has developed a platform that uses MDM to curate data for data lakes. It has also developed proprietary tools and MDM accelerator packs for specific use cases as well as many domain-specific and industry-specific tools and accelerators. Knowledgent also has vendor-specific accelerators for Informatica, and operating models for data governance organizations.”

Larsen & Toubro Infotech

“L&T Infotech is a global SI with an MDM practice housed within its larger Analytics & Information Management offering,” Gartner explains. “Its recent MDM implementation experience is mainly with large enterprises. The company has partnerships with IBM, Informatica, Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, SAS, Talend, Teradata and TIBCO Software. It also has recent MDM implementation experience with Informatica MDM, Microsoft MDS, Oracle (Customer Hub EBS, Product Hub EBS, Siebel UCM, Site Hub and Supplier Hub) and SAP MDG-M.”

LiquidHub

“LiquidHub is a specialist consulting firm focused on the customer experience,” Gartner says. “In December 2016, LiquidHub acquired Annik, a specialist consulting firm focused on data management for business intelligence and analytics, with a concentration on customer/consumer master data. LiquidHub has developed a proprietary MDM framework and methodology that includes data governance within its scope.”

LumenData

“LumenData is a specialist consulting firm with a focus on MDM and other information management disciplines,” Gartner says. “LumenData has developed hub solutions based on Oracle for spend monitoring, B2B solutions and higher education, as well as solutions to integrate Oracle Customer Hub with Oracle CRM on Demand and Salesforce. It has also developed a predictive analytics solution combining personally identifiable information (PII) data in MDM with third-party data to make business predictions for business-to-consumer enterprises.”

“Luxoft is an IT services company providing end-to-end data management solutions,” Gartner says. “Luxoft's offering is focused on IT systems implementation, IT maintenance and operations, and data operations. It has recent MDM experience with large enterprises and a formal partnership with recent MDM implementation experience for Informatica MDM. Luxoft has developed a custom MDM application and custom code for Informatica MDM functionality for financial instruments.”

PwC

“PwC is a global consulting and advisory firm that performs MDM and information governance engagements under the umbrella of its information management practice within its broader analytics portfolio,” Gartner writes. “The majority of PwC's MDM recent experience is with large enterprises, although it has also done some recent work with midsize and small organizations. PwC has developed a proprietary MDM implementation framework encompassing both strategy and implementation, and leverages a flexible global delivery model.”

Softpath System

“Softpath System is a U.S.-based specialist consulting firm focused on application and information management, with a distinct MDM practice area,” Gartner says. “The majority of its recent MDM experience is with large enterprises, although it has also done some recent work with midsize and small organizations. Softpath System has developed industry-specific solutions for the customer data domain for the media, healthcare, insurance and retail industries, as well as the location data domain for media and retail.”

Tata Consultancy Services

“Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is a global SI concentrating on information management (including MDM and information governance) under its business intelligence and performance management practice,” Gartner writes. “TCS has developed consulting frameworks for MDM around business case development, maturity assessment, solution evaluation/selection and information governance. TCS has also developed an agile MDM implementation methodology. The company offers vertical-specific MDM assets for the telecommunications, retail, logistics and oil and gas industries.”

Utopia

“Utopia is a specialist consulting firm concentrating on providing information management solutions in SAP environments,” Gartner explains. “It has substantial recent MDM implementation experience with SAP MDG-C, MDG-F and MDG-M. Under its partnership with SAP, Utopia has developed MDM assets for the automotive (supplier and material), consumer packaging (customer, material, finished product, regulatory compliance), chemicals (material, supplier customer), energy (material, financial, equipment, asset, material), life sciences (regulatory compliance) and transportation (asset) industries.”

VirtusaPolaris

“VirtusaPolaris is a global SI with MDM and information governance offerings housed under its EIM practice,” Gartner say. “VirtusaPolaris has developed an MDM assessment framework that includes an in-depth workshop covering multiple MDM program disciplines. It has also developed a modeling framework for customer data (including preconfigured business rules), and a toolkit for modeling complex product portfolios. The company has also developed assessment methodologies for MDM, information governance and data quality.”

“Wipro is a global SI providing MDM and information governance solutions from the information management practice of its analytics service line,” Gartner says. “Wipro has developed MDM assets for 360-degree views, as well as customer and product data for high-tech manufacturers, legal entities for financial services, multidomain for retail; service master data for oil and gas; as well as industry neutral solutions for reference data and for the supplier data domain. Several of these are based on Informatica, IBM and SAP MDM solutions.”
