Bankrolling the promise of artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is emerging as a real disruptor in some industries, and as a competitive advantage for many organizations embracing it. With the promise of big payoffs, it has also captured the attention of venture capital firms. In its new report “AI 100: The Artificial Intelligence Startups Redefining Industries,” CBInsights looks at the firms that are luring the largest share of investment dollars for their AI efforts. Here are the top players from that report.

Bytedance

A news and media company, Bytedance tops the list by far, having received $3,105 million in funding. Major investors include Sequoia Capital China, Source Code Capital and General Atlantic.

Affirm

A fintech and insurance company, Affirm has received $725 million in funding. Major investors include Andreesen Horowitz, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Spark Capital.

SenseTime

A cross-industry company, SenseTime has received $637 million in funding. Major investors include Star VC, IDG Capital, Morningside Ventures and Advantech Capital Partners.

Face++

A cross-industry company, Face++ has received $608 million in funding. Major investors include Qiming Venture Partners, Sinovation Ventures and Ignition Partners.

A fintech and insurance company, Upstart has received $585 million in funding. Major investors include New Enterprise Associates, Khosla Ventures and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

UBTECH Robotics

A robotics company, UBTECH Robotics has received $521 million in funding. Major investors include Qiming Venture Partners.

Zoox

An auto tech company, Zoox has attracted $290 million in funding. Major investors include Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Lux Capital, Blackbird Ventures and IDG Capital.

A cybersecurity company, CrowdStrike has received $281 million in funding. Major investors include capital, March Capital Partners and Accel Partners.

ZestFinance

A fintech and insurance company, Zest Finance has received $268 million in funding. Major investors include Matrix Partners, Lighthouse Capital Partners, Upfront Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners.

Mobvoi

A cross-industry company, Mobvoi has received $257 million in funding. Major investors include Sequoia Capital China and ZhenFund.

An auto tech company, NAUTO has received $183 million in funding. Major investors include Greylock Partners, Draper Nexus Ventures and Playground Ventures.

A cybersecurity company, Darktrace has received $182 million in funding. Major investors include Invoke Capital, Hoxton Ventures, Summit Partners and Samsung Ventures.

A robotics company, Cloud Minds has attracted $130 million in funding. Major investors include Walden International, Softbank China Venture Capital and Kaixuan Capital.
