The winners of the Fourth Annual Portal Excellence Awards were announced March 17, 2004, at DCI’s Portals, Collaboration and Content Management Conference in San Francisco. The awards are co-sponsored by DCI and by DM Review magazine.

The awards were presented in two categories: Best Enterprise Portal Application and Best Business Integration Project. DCI’s Conference Chair, Colin White of BI Research led the panel of judges. Zach Wahl of Project Performance Corporation and Clive Finkelstein of Information Engineering Services were the other judges and joined Mr. White in presenting the awards.

Sun Microsystems and their customer, AXA Financial, were given the award for Best Enterprise Portal Application. TIBCO Software and their customer, E & J Gallo Winery, were given the award for Best Business Integration Project.

Two special awards were also made. Interwoven and the American Hospital Association were commended for “powerful content management and collaboration facilities.” Datawatch Corporation and the County of Santa Clara California received a special award for “excellent meta data integration.”

Other finalists (Solution Provider and Customer) for the Best Enterprise Portal Application were Sonic Software and AXA Insurance as well as Plumtree Software and Hamilton-Sundstrand. For the Best Business Integration Project, the other finalists were Alphalogix and Twentieth Century Fox as well as IBM Corp. and Wall Street Access. .

DCI’s Portals, Collaboration and Content Management Conference is next being held in Chicago on August 24 – 26, 2004 and will include sessions detailing the techniques used and lessons learned by the Award finalists.
