Now that Ascential Software is truly an independent company with just about $1 billion to spend on new product development, marketing alliances and other initiatives, the company is wasting little time making an enhanced name for itself.

On April 24—the same day IBM acquired Informix’s database business—Ascential also announced a marketing and product alliance with Big Blue. Under the agreement, Ascential Software will integrate its DataStage product line with IBM's DB2 Warehouse Manager, which Ascential says gives customers the ability to integrate data from virtually any environment into a DB2-based data warehouse.
