WhereScape Introduces Major New Release of Data Warehouse Lifecycle Management Tool

  • September 25 2006, 1:00am EDT

WhereScape Software, provider of the first lifecycle management software solution specifically designed for data warehouses, announced WhereScape RED 5.5, a major new release of its data warehouse software that includes support for the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and Teradata databases, significantly reduces development time, minimizes the complexity of cube generation, enhances the look and feel and usability of the product, and improves support for snowflake schemas for increased performance.

WhereScape RED now generates all the native SQL code necessary to perform all aspects of the data warehouse development process with support for Microsoft SQL Server 2005. RED also provides support for advanced database features within SQL Server such as partitioning which increases performance of the data warehouse. This functionality allows data warehouse developers to take advantage of the underlying database platform features without having to manually code support for those features themselves.

Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services organizes data from a data warehouse into cubes so enterprises can perform complex analytical queries. WhereScape RED 5.5 improves the productivity of developers by supporting the native creation of Analysis Services cubes which significantly reduces the complexity of generating those cubes. With this new functionality, WhereScape RED now becomes the single operational tool needed from creation of a data warehouse or data mart all the way through to the creation of the Analysis Services cubes.

Release 5.5 introduces support for the Teradata platform. WhereScape RED generates and supports Teradata specific features such as MultiLoad and FastLoad scripts based on metadata definitions for loading data and Teradata set-based SQL procedures for transforming the data. Training costs are minimized since all of the processing is done using native Teradata functionality (FastLoad, MultiLoad, procedures, etc), enabling an enterprise to use existing in-house IT resources who already have the skills required with the database platform.

The new release includes an enhanced user interface with an Office 2007 look and feel, providing users with a familiar interface for developing data warehouses. WhereScape RED also features support for Snowflake Schema, a data warehouse model that eliminates data redundancy by grouping dimension data into multiple tables instead of one large table. This is especially suited for enterprises with customer or product dimension tables that contain millions of rows of data.
