Q: I'm relatively new to data warehousing. I would like you to clarify this basic doubt: What, if any, is the difference between data warehouse compression and table/data set compression?
To answer that fully, I would have to understand what you mean by data warehouse compression. But here are my thoughts. Table/data set compression is generally based on whether the data in a table (hence a row) is being compressed or not. Some databases will do compression at a higher level (page or file). Therefore that could be what is meant by data warehouse compression. If it is not, then I would think that data warehouse and table/data set compression are the same.
