Douglas Hackney's Answer: To use the classic consultant phrase: it depends. Benefits vary between life, health and P&C companies. Benefits will also vary between functional groups (i.e., finance, marketing, HR, etc.)

The biggest benefits we've seen in our insurance work have been:

  • Marketing data warehouses to enable cross-selling between product lines
  • Joining financial and customer data to enable lifetime value of the customer, profitability by customer, profitability by demographic segment and profitability by product
  • Claims analysis to pinpoint fraud, spot outliers, identify best practices and control costs
