Q:

We are in the beginning stages of reengineering our enterprise. We are looking for a comprehensive solution that will allow us to capture our business rules/processes (in the form of UML) and generate code and also take some of our pre-existing code and generate UML on an enterprise-wide basis. What tools/methodologies do you recommend for this sort of project?

A:

Clay Rehm's Answer: I have used Rational Rose on projects and it is a very helpful tool in collecting business requirements and business rules. The methodology that is used is the Rational Unified Process (RUP). However, do not expect this or any tool to be the answer or silver bullet. A talented project team is what is more important. You may also want to look into agile development methods (see other answer in this section). There are many methods available that you can mix and match to use for your specific project.
