We are creating a data warehouse that must restrict access to data for certain classes of users. To achieve this, we will need row-level security. Have you implemented row level security in a data warehouse? What technique did you use?
David Marco's Answer: When I've had to deal with this situation I've handled it in one of three ways. If, by reading the data I can efficiently decide if the user should be allowed to view it, I do a record selection at the reporting level, meaning within the reporting/query program's code. The second technique is adding a column(s) in the database indicating which user categories can view the data. Third, if your data marts are only accessed by certain user categories, I do not move the restricted data into the data mart.
