Q:

We are considering implementing an Oracle DB to consolidate a few older DB's (Sybase, SQL). We are primarily an NT shop, with a spattering of Novell and Unix (Sun, SGI). My question is which platform would you recommend, NT or Sun? Is there any documentation that you can provide as to performance comparison, scalability, stability. etc.?

A:

Douglas Hackney's Answer: We see both in the field and have good luck with them. Solaris is a very stable and scalable implementation of UNIX . If you are going to put it up on NT5/W2k you can mitigate some of the challenges that have dogged NT to date. Pretty big price/performance advantages on NT.
