Verity Inc., a leading provider of enterprise software that helps organizations maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, announced the availability of its initial Verity Taxonomies, six customizable classification structures that will speed and simplify the organization and management of content in large-scale global enterprises.
The six Verity Taxonomies are based on open industry standards, and built using the same query language used in Verity K2 Enterprise content organization products. Each of the taxonomies, together with Verity classification solutions that combine both automation and domain expertise, are designed to provide an enterprise’s taxonomy project with a head start to deliver extremely accurate and relevant content organization to enhance the value of the enterprise’s intellectual capital. More importantly, Verity Taxonomies are also customizable by customers to serve their unique business requirements, both enterprise-wide and departmental. This customization can be performed by an enterprise's administrator, or by Verity Professional Services.
Enterprises that choose to engage Verity Professional Services can also combine Verity Taxonomies with the Verity Data Discovery Program, to ensure that each of the taxonomies fits seamlessly with the enterprise's content- driven processes as well as with its corporate taxonomies. The Verity Data Discovery Program aims to give enterprises an analysis of the information that is contained in the various repositories across the enterprise, with the goal of enabling better use of the information in a cost-effective manner. This program takes advantage of Verity K2 Enterprise's Thematic Mapping feature to map data to company-specific taxonomies. This particular part of the process frequently discovers unknown information assets. The Verity Data Discovery Program can also recommend a taxonomy structure for those organizations that have not implemented a corporate-wide taxonomy. Whether the new taxonomies are generated by Thematic Mapping or recommended by Verity Knowledge Engineers, they can quickly and easily be augmented with the categories and category-definitions of Verity Taxonomies.

In addition, the DTIC thesaurus provides extensive information on general topics such as "chemistry," "physics" and "atmospheric sciences." Verity knowledge engineers have converted these into categories defined by Verity business rules to enable governmental and non-governmental organizations to take advantage of the years of the Department of Defense’s expertise represented in the DTIC taxonomy.
