(Bloomberg) -- Twitter Inc. is boosting its expertise in machine learning -- an area of technology that lets computers use data to make predictions.

To do that, it’s buying Magic Pony Technology, a London-based company that uses machine learning tools for video. Terms of the deal weren’t announced.

Magic Pony’s technology “will be used to enhance our strength in live and video and opens up a whole lot of exciting creative possibilities for Twitter," the company said in a blog posting Monday.

Twitter, beset by stagnating user growth, is under pressure to add tools that make the company’s blogging service more alluring to a broader audience -- beyond a base that’s dominated by politicians, entertainers and journalists.
