BACKGROUND: Wind River is the global leader in device software optimization (DSO), enabling companies to develop, run and manage device software better, faster, at lower cost and more reliably. Founded in 1981, Wind River is publicly held and headquartered in Alameda, California, with operations worldwide.
PLATFORMS: Oracle 11 E-Business Suite, Oracle Customer Data Hub and Oracle Siebel CRM, Oracle Fusion SOA Middleware, Oracle OBIEE-Business Intelligence Platform for Sales/Marketing, Oracle WebCenter, Oracle Universal Content Manager and Hyperion.
PROBLEM SOLVED: Wind River faced data quality issues that impacted critical business operations and order-to-cash flow processes. Significant amounts of customer and product data were faulty or incorrect, and information about orders and past shipments was often inaccurate. Some product orders were shipped incorrectly or dropped due to inaccurate or duplicate address information, creating order processing delays. Integration gaps between applications, orders and customer information caused data flow dams in key systems, creating manual data input that exhausted resources, money and time. These problems impacted Wind Rivers core business processes and how it met customer needs.
PRODUCT FUNCTIONALITY: Because of Trillium Softwares real-time connector and integration with Oracle systems, we analyze and cleanse data upstream as part of an ongoing data governance approach before it passes to order-capture and shipping systems. Instead of periodic batch cleansing or annual data quality projects, information is constantly updated, ensuring ongoing accuracy. Data is loaded into the Trillium Software System, which automatically identifies and standardizes inaccurate data based on existing rule sets. Wind River used the softwares business rules to cleanse existing data from multiple countries. Approximately 3,600 new customers each year are standardized using sophisticated, out-of-the-box country rules. As a result, Wind River reduced dropped transactions and incorrect orders, helping capture thousands of dollars in potentially lost revenue. We reduced shipping delays by 80 percent; solidly improving order-to-cash flow while providing visibility into customer information to more reliably target and report on deals and improve customer relationship management.
STRENGTHS: What drew us to Trillium Software System was the combination of flexibility and integration with our existing Oracle systems. We needed software that worked seamlessly with our data repositories and applications to broaden data quality across all order and billing processes. Its real-time support and potent data quality analysis and standardization capabilities ensured we could implement a data governance practice as part of our overarching Master Data Management strategy. Out-of-the-box country rule sets were critical for limiting development resources and costs. Finally, the scalability of the solution was extremely attractive, ensuring the system would grow as we grow.
WEAKNESSES: We wanted to create a true MDM infrastructure, but Trillium Software does not provide advanced MDM capabilities or functionality. But, that is why Trillium Software has strong partnerships with companies like Oracle and can be integrated with our existing CRM/enterprise resource planning applications to inject data quality processes into our systems.
SELECTION CRITERIA: The Trillium Software System was chosen because of its ability to integrate with our current systems and its mature and robust profiling, matching and standardization functionality. Real-time connectors, out-of-the-box country codes and Siebel connectors were important, and Trillium Software services won us over with strategic, responsive consulting.
DELIVERABLES: Wind River salespeople can now generate important sales and customer reports automatically rather than manually checking spreadsheets to ensure information is correct. We have achieved an MDM solution that laid the groundwork for a phase-two project recently completed to more closely align sales objectives with customer needs and improve customer support processes on the Web.
VENDOR SUPPORT: The support we received during implementation was phenomenal. Trillium Software professional services staff is a strategic partner. They were attentive to our needs and understood the business problem we were trying to solve. The organization was very responsive, and helped us to get up and running very quickly. The best part of working with Trillium Software is they totally understand our business model. Their support and solutions provide significant improvement to our overall data quality.
DOCUMENTATION: Documentation was complete and easy to follow, but Trilliums Professional Services team was a critical factor in the success of the project. Our team had no prior training with the Trillium solution, and we learned mostly by working side by side with the PS team from Trillium and then referring to documents after.
