DAMA is building a brand. As the premier organization for data professionals worldwide, DAMA International (DAMA-I) is creating the global repository of knowledge, standards, best practices and policies for information resource management (IRM). As a member of DAMA-I, you have that wealth of knowledge to influence your work and make a difference at your company.

Whether you attend our symposiums, chapter meetings or DAMA Days, you are gathering information, tips and techniques to solve your company's next data dilemma. We are in the process of building a brand around data quality – membership data quality. Our new DAMA database will be implemented soon. This repository will enable the DAMA board and chapters to:

  • Value, manage and leverage all membership information and knowledge as a strategic DAMA resource to improve member services.
  • Manage chapter activities across the DAMA value chain.
  • Build reusable information infrastructure and value-adding applications for the chapters.
  • Define membership data consistently for all members and executive board members.
  • Apply data stewardship to ensure that the data is accurate, current and of high integrity.

As part of our brand-building campaign, we are focusing on special interest groups to provide practice aids and guidance to our members. We are positioning a new VP of Marketing to our executive board. We have also completed the formation of a new chapter for Members-at-Large (individuals who are not in the proximity of a chapter and, therefore, do not belong to any chapter). These individuals receive the same benefits and communications as individuals in the specific affiliated chapters. This new chapter will be a virtual chapter and will be named the Global DAMA chapter. The membership in this chapter is worldwide. Our membership is key to making DAMA the data brand.
The inaugural 2004 DAMA-I Global Chapter Board of Directors are: Shayne Wright (President), Norm Stevens (VP Education/Program), Linda Kresl (VP Financial Services), Dannise Kemp (VP Online Services), Steve Long (VP Member Services) and Bob Wray (VP Communications). For more information, please contact the president at mal_president@dama.org.

Membership in the Global Chapter is automatic for all current DAMA-I Members- at-Large. Please note that the formation of a Members-at-Large chapter in no way impacts your relationship with DAMA International. The chapter will remain part of DAMA International, and members of the Global chapter will continue to be members of DAMA International, with all inherent rights, responsibilities and discounts.

Our vision is to offer all of the benefits of traditional geography-based chapters and more to those members without access to a local chapter. As a result of the formation of this chapter, all DAMA-I Members-at-Large will have a say in DAMA-I's strategic directions through representative participation in the President's Council and through the eligibility of Members- at-Large to become elected DAMA-I Board members.
