Welcome to DM Review's 1999 Data Warehouse 100 issue. Each company in the Data Warehouse 100 has provided comments from one of their key executives in response to the question: How does the e-commerce and e-business focus being adopted by corporations throughout the world impact the business intelligence and data warehousing market, your company and its products?

The vendors comprising DM Review's 1999 Data Warehouse 100 were selected by you, our readers. In our comprehensive readership study conducted by Market Perspectives, an independent research organization, you were asked to rate the vendors of data warehousing and business intelligence products used in your organizations. The survey was conducted over the Internet from April through July of 1999 and resulted in 697 completed questionnaires. The top 100 vendors were chosen based on a weighting process that made calculated adjustments for the following factors: the rating scores for each product, the number of sites reporting use of the product, the number of products in a given product category and the number of categories in which a vendor participated.

This issue provides you with an excellent resource as you plan the future of your data warehouse/business intelligence implementation. Whether your company is just beginning its business intelligence initiative or has a fully operational system that is growing rapidly, you will benefit from the insights provided by these industry leaders.

The data warehousing/business intelligence market is rapidly changing with acquisitions, mergers and new product/solution providers impacting all segments of this market; and the demand for data warehousing/business intelligence products and services is soaring as companies realize that they cannot compete effectively without the backbone of a solid data warehouse architecture. We are pleased to feature the industry-leading companies that you have identified as the top 100.

Thanks to all readers who participated in the survey, and congratulations to all members of the 1999 Data Warehouse 100.
