Supplemental Health Care Gains Financial Insight with iDashboards

BACKGROUND: Based in Park City, Utah, Supplemental Health Care, Inc. has been providing health care organizations better access to skilled nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists and radiation technology professionals for more than 20 years. The company has 50 nursing and allied divisions in major U.S. markets and places health care professionals in temporary and travel positions both nationally and internationally. In 2006, Supplemental Health Care ranked as one of the world's fastest-growing private health care staffing companies by Staffing Industry Analysts, Inc.

HARDWARE PLATFORMS: Windows Server 2003, Excel.

PROBLEM SOLVED: At Supplemental Health Care, we were seeking a dashboard solution that could give us a real-time look into our financial data. We wanted a dashboard technology that offered a visually rich representation of critical accounting and financial data. Prior to iDashboards, we had several financial systems in place, and we were generating reports from them in Excel spreadsheets. A dashboard solution was required to visually evaluate Supplemental Health Care's accounting and financial key performance indicators (KPIs) and to support timely decision-making.

PRODUCT FUNCTIONALITY: As a result of the joint collaboration between the iDashboards Professional Services team and the Supplemental Health Care team, a dashboard solution was developed that met our requirements of delivering timely and accurate KPIs to division managers. The KPIs included operating costs, sales volume, accounts receivable collection times and revenue. We are now able to visually monitor financial operations through three metric dashboards, which also contain drill downs so that our managers can immediately examine accounting and financial data on the fly. With the flexibility of iDashboards, individual managers are always aware of the most up-to-date financial information.

STRENGTHS: iDashboards is a real-time enterprise dashboard solution that offers an easily understood visual representation of our data. There is no programming required, so even our business users are able to create or change dashboards for their personal view without relying on our IT staff. It has an intuitive user interface, live drill-down capability and a built-in user-security framework. It was quick and cost-effective to implement. iDashboards gives us the ability to convey live accounting information to our division managers to aid prompt and timely decisions.

WEAKNESSES: Currently, we bring our data into Excel from our Microsoft Dynamic Great Plains (GP) accounting software database and upload into the iDashboards database. In the future, we foresee using iDashboards to directly query Microsoft Dynamic GP.

SELECTION CRITERIA: We looked for an executive-level solution that was the complete dashboard package. We wanted a dashboard product that was visually rich, responsive and intuitive for our end users and that required no programming. In addition, we required a dashboard product that would allow us to easily analyze, track and drill down through information. In our search, we considered several other dashboard solutions on the market. However, we selected iDashboards because it was a Web-based solution with all the features we expected from an enterprise-level dashboard. The deciding factors were iDashboards' ease of use, compatibility with Excel, low cost of ownership, quick implementation and intuitive user interface.

DELIVERABLES: iDashboards provided us with a real-time dashboard solution, which we were able to fully implement and roll out in just a month. Our managers can retrieve information regarding KPIs through the dashboards and make timely decisions. iDashboards provides a visually appealing method for reporting this information.

VENDOR SUPPORT: iDashboards has provided excellent support from prior to the installation to continuing technical support. We chose to utilize their consulting services, and with their assistance, we were able to identify necessary dashboard metrics to get us started. They have been very responsive to answering support questions.

DOCUMENTATION: Documentation is complete and easy to understand, both for end users and for administration. The user manual can be accessed at any time through the software by end users.
