March 14, 2011 – SuccessFactors, a provider of talent management software and cloud-based business applications, announced its proposed purchase of niche software as a service video and social learning provider Jambok.

Jambok’s virtualized platform enables employees to create, share and find Web-based video for informal, peer-to-peer training. Along with video, Jambok integrates employee-created podcasting, discussion forums, blogs and activity feeds into existing content management systems or as a SaaS offering.

SuccessFactors stated it would include Jambok’s capabilities with its cloud-based BizX Suite, beginning with its enterprise collaboration solution, according to a news release.

Jason Corsello, vice president at Knowledge Infusion, a human resources management consultancy, says SuccessFactors’ recent growth has enabled the company to buy specific technologies and providers like those from Jambok, which may only currently have a handful of customers.

In the big picture, picking up this newer video sharing technology taps into growing call from employers and H.R. organizations for bottom-up skills development and talent retention, Corsello says.

“We’re seeing a lot of organizations really look at enabling the employee to do talent management on their own, to take their own career and career development into their own hands,” he says. “It kind of fits into that line of being more employee-driven.”

Terms of the deal were not disclosed and are expected to be finalized Tuesday, according to SuccessFactors spokesperson Andrea Meyer. Jambok CEO Dr. Karie Willyerd, a former Sun Microsystems executive, and other Jambok employees will join SuccessFactors, according to a news release.

SuccessFactors had made four acquisitions in the last year to add differing technology and capabilities to its on-demand business applications offerings, including cloud provider youcalc.
