SaaS skeptics will reconsider their security concerns.

Until now, IT departments have been skeptical about software as a service (SaaS) for a few key reasons, including security issues. As IT departments realize that many of their security concerns have been addressed and that SaaS can offer significant advantages in terms of cost and speed of deployment, they will increasingly include these solutions in their storage vendor reviews.

Escalating data center costs will lead more businesses to choose SaaS storage solutions.

SaaS has a major operational and cost advantage. SaaS storage solutions can provide a degree of redundancy that would be cost-prohibitive for most businesses to achieve on their own. For an application such as email archiving – which is extremely important but not technically mission critical - the advantage is even greater.

SaaS storage solutions will continue to gain market share, notably in midsized to large enterprises.

Many people continue to associate SaaS with the SMB market, but much SaaS revenue is generated from large enterprises. This trend will impact the SaaS storage market, with more midsized to large enterprises outsourcing this aspect of the IT infrastructure for cost and convenience.

Legal concerns will fuel demand for on-demand storage solutions.

There is growing concern among businesses about potentially costly e-discovery requests, particularly in light of the amended Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP). As a result, we will see more businesses taking a proactive approach to e-discovery by adopting cost-effective storage solutions that provide two key benefits, namely the enforcement of retention policies and easy search access.
