The strategy of Siemens Information Communications and Networks (ICN) Division is to transform from a voice product and service company to a communications solution integration and services company by leveraging and expanding our core expertise into select markets.
Siemens' ICN Division began implementing a strategic voice-over IP (VoIP) telephony initiative and faced major competition from other firms getting into the customer call center business. The company needed to establish early-mover advantage and keep up with customer needs. This would require quick access to relevant market, product and customer data for analysis leading to business-enhancing decision making. It was important to Siemens that information be easily shared across workgroups with particular interest in providing executives with detailed access in an easy-to-use format.
Siemens ICN began the search for an integrated business intelligence (BI) platform to enable a diverse and distributed end-user community to leverage detailed customer/ prospect information found in the Siemens corporate data warehouse (DW). The DW currently consolidates nearly five years of data gleaned from Siemens' SAP-based applications and other data sources.
An extensive review of BI tools led Siemens to a number of critical success factors. Among the most important were speed of implementation, ease of use and support for multiple data sources. Siemens selected Brio.Enterprise 6.0 as its corporate BI standard because it met all the required criteria.
Siemens' associates use Brio.Enterprise for integrated data access, ad hoc query and analytical reporting capabilities. Their new ability to perform quick customer and market analysis and develop effective strategies for response allows Siemens to better manage and grow its business. The personalized dashboard provides immediate data views while allowing each user to customize data for their individual needs. The flexibility of the system permits individual usage to reflect business priorities immediately. If an employee is promoted or moved to an entirely new area, the method used to reach data remains the same. Staff adapts quickly to change and maintains familiar access patterns, enhancing productivity.
Brio gives all of our users the ability to immediately access and query multiple data sources, enabling real-time business decisions. It allows ubiquitous access to our corporate data warehouse running on an IBM DB2 database within an MVS environment. It also supports access to critical data on all of our Oracle databases and the SAP-based business warehouse as well as individual users' own private databases and spreadsheets. Users have the best of all possible worlds. They're able to receive scripted reports, work with IT to order query-based custom reports and use the dashboard to provide reports gleaned from data tailored to their personalized preferences. Siemens employees like the variety and freedom provided by Brio.Enterprise. We're finding that associates are becoming more sophisticated in their data use and are developing a greater understanding of the impact it has on their business.
The Brio.Enterprise 6.0 BI platform enables Siemens' use of information to better inform and widely empower a broadly dispersed set of sales and marketing professionals. It frees end users to focus on making faster business decisions instead of spending time figuring out how to access and process information held in the DW. By removing the technical roadblocks, Siemens is able to improve worker productivity.
Brio.Enterprise 6.0 has surpassed every goal set by Siemens' IT group. Our users now save at least 60 percent of the time they once devoted to creating queries that's an estimated three hours per week per employee. Users have also discovered information they didn't even know existed before. As a result, other Siemens executives have recognized the benefits and are requesting copies of Brio.Enterprise 6.0 for their own employees. We're pleased that Brio.Enterprise requires so little support that we can allocate IT resources to other projects, saving both time and money.
