SAP wants a piece of the growing open collaborative applications market and is appointing its newest executive board member to lead the charge. Shai Agassi, CEO of SAP Portals – the newly integrated entity which combines SAP Markets and SAP Portals – will oversee from the board level all of the company’s collaborative business initiatives.

“Two years ago, SAP sent two scouting boats – SAP Markets and SAP Portals – ahead to explore the evolving waters of openness in business software and found that the greatest benefit for customers comes from open collaborative applications residing on top of open technology in heterogeneous landscapes,” says Hasso Plattner, co-chairman, chief executive officer and co-founder of SAP AG. “We will continue to focus on developing collaborative solutions that are built to run with other companies’ products.” SAP has already integrated third-party infrastructure technologies, including Microsoft .NET and IBM WebSphere, into its platform software platform-specific environments, including mySAP technology.
