Scott Metcalf has been named president and chief executive officer of Semio, a content categorization and indexing software company.

Metcalf will replace retiring CEO Roger Ferguson who will remain on Semio's board of directors.

Metcalf was founder and CEO of Digitivity, a Java server and security software company. The firm was acquired by Citrix. Metcalf also served as CEO of HAL Computer Systems, a maker of super computing workstations and servers, later acquired by Fujitsu; and Dynabook Computers, a portable computer design firm acquired by Unisys.

Semio's content categorization and indexing technology transforms data into information and is designed for use in the enterprise and integration with portals and other online applications
