SAP co-CEO Bill McDermott leaned heavily on the theme in a late afternoon keynote.

Said McDermott:

“It’s a consumer revolution that is remaking the entire landscape. Macro forces are converging creating a historic inflection point that our grandchildren will read about in eBooks one day. It’s a paradigm shift driven by epic consumer demand for instant anywhere mobility and for intense social connectivity. It’s a revolution led by billions of individual and business consumers everywhere from the world’s most established to its just emerging purchasing and working classes. They in fact are the new center of the universe.”

McDermott said he and co-CEO Jim Hagemann Snabe had concluded that SAP needed to revise SAP’s enterprise approach to account for demand for mobile applications with a lighter footprint and more utilitarian working focus.

SAP’s Travel Expense Report mobile allows employees to update reporting from mobile devices; SAP Learning Assistant manages course materials and downloads for offline consumption; and the SAP Customer Briefing mobile app presents client data and a dashboard view of customer and external information.

The company also updated mobile commerce applications based on the acquisition of Sybase and it’s platform of mobility technologies. These include Sybase  365 mobile banking for mobile account information depositing and transactions; Sybase 365 Mobile payments, a mobile wallet application for remittance and managing merchants; and Sybase 365 Mobile Money for financial institutions to deploy branchless banking services through a mobile device with support for Know Your Customer requirements and fee tracking.

SAP plans cloud, analytic and more application releases in the next two days of the event.
