SAP AG announced the launch of the "Powered by SAP NetWeaver" initiative, a new program designed to empower SAP partners and independent software vendors (ISVs) with the SAP NetWeaver technology platform to build new business applications. The new program builds upon the already successful SAP NetWeaver Partner Initiative, which touts more than 200 partner companies participating.

Initial participants in the "Powered by SAP NetWeaver" program include Merant, Metreo, TimeVision, Trigo and Vertex. Today, these companies are leveraging SAP NetWeaver, the open integration and application platform that drives lower cost of ownership across heterogeneous IT landscapes, as their foundation of choice in creating innovative new business applications. While traditionally SAP has certified companies for component interface compliance, this new program offers companies the entire platform for application development. Companies can achieve "Powered by SAP NetWeaver" status by offering third-party applications deployed by SAPr Web Application Server of the SAP NetWeaver platform and accessible through SAPr Enterprise Portal via pre-built iViews.

"Adoption of SAP NetWeaver by these ISVs as their application platform provides companies with more value from SAP NetWeaver and augments the position of SAP as a strategic trusted innovator for our customers," said Shai Agassi, executive board member, SAP AG. "This is a clear win win-win for all parties – partners, SAP and most importantly, our customers. SAP NetWeaver offers a clear, opportunistic business proposition for independent software vendors, and we welcome them into the SAP ecosystem."
