Software vendors do a better job of hosting information systems than do information technology services firms, according to a new report from vendor research firm KLAS Enterprises. But there's a trade-off because vendors typically host only their proprietary systems.

The Orem, Utah-based firm interviewed 176 provider organizations for the report, "Application Hosting: Offloading Risk and Cost?" More than 90 percent of respondents using Cerner, McKesson and Siemens hosting services would recommend their vendor, while less than half of ACS and Velocity clients would do so.

Top-rated vendors in the report, in order, were Cerner, NaviSite and McKesson. Other vendors in the report include ACS, Computer Sciences Corp., Eclipsys, GE Healthcare, Perot Systems, PHNS, Siemens and Velocity.
