MetaMatrix recently announced Ray Lane has joined its board of directors following a fourth round of venture capital investments led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and The Invus Group. Lane currently serves as a general partner of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Prior to joining KPCB, Lane was president and chief operating officer of Oracle Corporation, the second- largest software company in the world and the leading enterprise software and services company.

During his eight-year tenure, Oracle exhibited phenomenal sales growth, from approximately $1 billion in 1992 to its current annual revenue of $10.1 billion. He led Oracle's business expansion beyond its core database technology into enterprise applications and professional services. Ray also helped focus Oracle on specific industries, bringing industry and functional expertise to Oracle, making the company's relationship with large industry leaders closer and more strategic.

KPCB identified MetaMatrix technology as key to creating a real-time enterprise. A real-time enterprise is a company that uses Internet technology to remove manual business processes, to eliminate guesswork, and to reduce costs. In a real- time enterprise, information is available transparently, providing global information visibility regardless of the systems and locations housing the information. MetaMatrix provides this transparency, integrating information systems across the enterprise into a virtual database while leaving the data in its original format on the system where it is stored. As a bidirectional system, MetaMatrix enables complete transaction cycles, with not only the ability to read information through the virtual database but also the ability to create, update and delete information while maintaining the capability to rollback any of these changes.

"An astute minority of enterprises already recognize that real-time enterprise can drive business efficiency as well as responsiveness to economic change. We expect more will follow suit," said Mark Raskino, research director at Gartner Research "CIOs who are not already addressing the challenges of the real-time enterprise, should prepare now."

To help organizations prepare to real-time enable their enterprises, MetaMatrix is hosting a series of executive roundtables with Ray Lane and spotlighting examples of real-time enterprise deployments. More information is available on the Web site at
