Business Objects, a provider of e-business intelligence solutions, and Rapt Inc., a developer of commerce management tools, are forming an alliance and going after the highly fragmented — but potentially lucrative — direct goods procurement market. Specifically, the companies are developing products for procurement optimization and supply chain management.

Under the arrangement, Rapt and Business Objects will integrate Rapt Buy, Rapt's analytic application for optimized direct procurement decisions, with Business Objects’ query, reporting, and analytics technologies. The combined product offering will provide users with the ability to access and analyze Rapt's procurement strategies and share reports.
