In a move to expand the functionality of its OpenEdge e-business platform, Progress Software Corp. is acquiring PeerDirect Inc., a Toronto- based developer of a heterogeneous database replication system for data distribution. Terms were not disclosed.

Rick Reidy, senior vice president of products for Progress, Bedford, Mass., said PeerDirect’s system for distributing and synchronizing relational databases will enhance the data replication capabilities of Progress’s products, such as its Fathom embedded database. Fathom is used as an application management tool designed to optimize the availability and performance of e-business applications.
