This represents the first in a series of quarterly business intelligence (BI) and business performance management (BPM) showdowns. Showdowns compare the essential features and functionality of three vendors to identify key differentiators and to give organizations a general outline of what is being offered in the market based on Technology Evaluation Centers (TEC) BPM software evaluation center. The results are taken from the most recent request for information (RFI) data supplied to us by the three vendors, indicating their level of support for each of the 2,015 functional criteria in TEC's BI/BPM evaluation center. For the purposes of this showdown, all priorities were set equally, meaning that no area of functionality was treated as being more important than any other.

For this vendor showdown, we selected three of the top BPM solutions: Oracle's Hyperion System 9, OutlookSoft and Cartesis 10. Each of these vendors has been or is in the midst of being acquired by other vendors (Oracle has acquired Hyperion, SAP is in the process of purchasing OutlookSoft, and Business Objects has acquired Cartesis). Although these vendor offerings will now fall within the solutions of their parent company, their BPM functionality is still leading edge within the industry.
