Oracle announced its position as a leader in META Group's METAspectrum report for data mining, citing the maturity and stability of Oracle Data Mining and its widespread adoption relative to the competition.

Oracle was recognized as a leader based on 15 categories measured by META Group, including the Company's ability to execute and pricing.  Data mining enables organizations to extract new, previously hidden information from their data.  Typical applications involve database marketing, customer profiling, fraud detection, market basket analysis, market segmentation, and clinical and discovery data analysis in life sciences, according to META Group.

Embedded in the Oracle Database, Oracle Data Mining enables companies' customers across industries such as life sciences, pharmaceutical, retail, among others, to extract information efficiently from the very largest databases and build integrated business intelligence applications. Application developers can quickly automate the extraction and distribution of new business intelligence - predictions, patterns and discoveries - throughout the organization. Businesses can also realize savings by avoiding additional hardware purchases for computing and storage environments, redundant copies of the data and multiple versions of the data, and duplication of personnel to manage distinct data mining software packages.
