San Jose, Calif., Oct. 5, 1999 -, a leading eResearch services company, announced that results of the BI/DW Research Program's Database Solutions III (DBS III) survey established Oracle as the leading data warehousing and business intelligence software vendor in customer mindshare.

In 1998, Oracle's estimated share of the BI/DW software market was 9 percent, second only to IBM. Asked which three software vendors come to mind first when thinking about the leading BI/DW vendors, 53.4 percent of respondents at 500 randomly selected North American companies identified Oracle, followed by Microsoft at 29.9 percent, Cognos at 27.7 percent and IBM at 26.8 percent.

Michael Burwen, executive vice president of the BI/DW Research Program, said, "Oracle's commitment to the business intelligence and data warehousing market is reflected in the DBS III results, and the company is well positioned to capitalize on the growth ahead. Our data indicates that after Y2K issues are resolved, organizations will double, and in some cases even triple their current budgets for data warehousing and business intelligence projects."
