BACKGROUND: OnDemandIQ provides outsourced reporting and analytics capabilities to small and medium-sized companies, giving decision-makers at all levels of the organization easy access to relevant information and key insights. Through hosted dashboard and reporting, our customers obtain many of the high-value BI capabilities that they desire but lack the resources to implement. Within specific industries, such as life sciences, value-added services are provided in areas such as forecasting, incentive compensation modeling and territory design.
HARDWARE PLATFORMS: Web-hosted application.
PROBLEM SOLVED: Our primary need was for a set of tools that we could use to build a custom application that could be extended to our clients. LogiXML's licensing model and development framework fit our needs. Per-processor (not per-customer) licensing would allow us to serve both small and large clients without individual licensing requirements. We also wanted to be able to create our own interface that wasn't simply a branded version of some other product, so we needed the flexibility to use the Logi components as tools that could be assembled into something that was unique.
PRODUCT FUNCTIONALITY: The application we have developed with LogiXML is the face of our company to many of our clients. They are able to access their real-time business information through graphical dashboards and detailed reports, and they can perform ad hoc analysis. We have made extensive use of nearly every component of LogiXML Info. LogiXML has allowed us to develop a customer-facing application more quickly and easily than we could have ourselves and allows us to differentiate our services offering.
STRENGTHS: LogiXML has met our needs perfectly - we have used LogiXML to construct an out-of-the-box solution that can be easily customized to meet specific clients' needs. For example, several sales and marketing organizations in the medical device/pharmaceutical industry need a way to quickly communicate sales information to a geographically dispersed sales organization. Now, their salespeople can access real-time information on which activities are driving sales, how they are performing to their goals and where additional opportunities may exist. All of this information is organized on a graphical dashboard with drill-down capabilities to make it easy for them to get the information they need when they need it.
WEAKNESSES: We struggled to orient ourselves with the visual modeling development environment, as it was fairly new to most of our development team. However, we discovered that within a month we got past the learning curve and are now able to progress much more rapidly than if we had developed the application using a more traditional object-oriented or procedural language.
SELECTION CRITERIA: From a business perspective, LogiXML offers a much better deal for partner companies like OnDemandIQ. In contrast to other BI providers who license their software on a per-user basis, LogiXML's server-based pricing is the structure we needed to deliver our platform at a price customers can afford. The company is also there when we need them to solve a problem. Their support team has been outstanding, helping us to exploit all the features of the platform to achieve our goals.
DELIVERABLES: We currently issue hundreds of reports a week on behalf of our clients, all generated and mass emailed through our Logi-based application. This includes both tabular reports as well as custom report cards that reflect incentive compensation metrics. Hundreds of users across multiple customers have access to our Web-based platform, where they can see real-time, personalized, graphical dashboards that reflect the metrics relevant to them as well as get detailed reports. We get instantly created charts based on a tabular report. Users can select an option to visually display trends and key insights without sifting through multiple rows and columns of data.
VENDOR SUPPORT: The support team has really exceeded expectations. The team has been instrumental in developing the product and understands exactly how it works. They have also been surprisingly able to send patches, in the few cases where they were needed, in just a few days to address specific problems we encountered.
DOCUMENTATION: The documentation is fairly complete from a reference standpoint, but it could be improved to help new members of the development team get up to speed quicker. For those new team members, we relied heavily on the support and training provided by the Logi team.
