June 9 – NYSE Euronext plans to expand its Netezza implementation and will leverage the data warehouse appliance for critical and strategic applications. By scaling its installation, NYSE Euronext hopes to monitor billions of daily trading system events for regulatory compliance and exception handling.
As trading volumes grow across markets, it is becoming challenging and costly to comply with stringent surveillance requirements, which include monitoring orders and trades over an entire trading day.
With the Netezza appliance, NYSE Euronext plans to expedite dozens of complex surveillances during the small window after market close in order to meet the next day’s regulatory reporting and market surveillance requirements.
Data warehouse appliances are optimized for quick data processing, high query performance and platform scalability. Appliances like Netezza's are designed specifically for analytical processing on extremely large volumes of data.
“We needed to scale our data processing platform without continuing to add complexity or additional processes,” said Steve Hirsch, chief data officer, SVP global data services at NYSE Euronext in a statement. As a proven solution, Hirsh said Netezza has the scalable, analytic capabilities that make it a sensible ongoing investment for his company.
NYSE Euronext has deployed multiple Netezza data warehouse appliances in multiple locations, which are used to store and analyze more than 400 terabytes of information. The organization has also migrated data from the NYSE Amex (formerly the American Stock Exchange), which NYSE Euronext acquired in 2008, to its Netezza data warehouse environment.
NYSE Euronext, which brings together six cash equities exchanges in seven countries and eight derivatives exchanges, is a leader for listings, trading in cash equities, equity and interest rate derivatives, bonds and the distribution of market data.
