National Lloyds & American Summit Insurance is deploying TwinStrata’s CloudArray storage appliance to provide a seamless extension to cloud storage for its disaster recovery backup needs, according to TwinStrata.
National Lloyds plan was to implement a cloud-based storage-area network (SAN) by combining cloud storage with its existing SAN infrastructure for increased capacity.
National Lloyds had been using a storage-area network (SAN) to store and protect department and employee data, along with images used by its policy and claims administrators. When the company needed to replace its SAN three times within five years, in addition to spending $3,300 a month to perform disaster recovery backups, it began looking for a simple and flexible cloud storage backup offering for disaster recovery.
The company chose TwinStrata's CloudArray virtual appliance, which provides a secure gateway between National Lloyd’s VMware infrastructure and backup software, delivering immediate access to Amazon cloud storage.
TwinStrata's CloudArray has enabled the firm to simplify its data backup strategy while increasing the overall quality and flexibility of its storage environment and decreasing operational costs, says Joe Kempenich, vice president of IT at National Lloyds.
"SAN upgrades, which used to take multiple weekends and required precious resources to complete, are now a thing of the past,” Kempenich said in a statement. “We are no longer tied to proprietary hardware, we require less on-site disk storage and we no longer worry about running out of disk or not having access to data because of a disk failure."
Since deploying the cloud SAN, National Lloyds has reduced its disaster recovery costs by $2,600 a month.
