The global 3G/4G devices market will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of nearly 4% between 2016 and 2020, according to Technavio Research.

The increasing availability of high-speed 3G/4G Internet services is enabling faster Web browsing, faster streaming of videos and better performance of GPS. As a result, many countries are opting for 3G/4G connectivity by the shutting down of 2G mobile networks to increase the bandwidth allocated to 3G/4G mobile networks, the firm says.

The Americas dominate the market by accounting for more than 38% of the overall market share. The increasing penetration of smartphones, tablets and mobile hotspots is expected to contribute to growth in the 3G/4G market in the Americas by 2020.

“The emergence of next-generation wireless networks is an ongoing trend in the market,” said Kumar Singh, lead analyst, hardware and semiconductor, at Technavio Research.

“The global deployment of next-generation wireless networks such as 3G, 4G, and 5G is on rise, owing to the increasing popularity of mobile communication devices,” Singh said. “The ability of these networks to provide broadband-like connectivity is triggering an increase in the number of users. The development of next-generation wireless infrastructure enables consumers and business enterprises to access the Internet from anywhere, thereby driving the demand for mobile hotspots.”
