Extensible Markup Language endeavors are rapidly evolving. The ebXML specification, recently demonstrated at the Data Integration Standards Association trade show in San Francisco, became available in March, two months ahead of schedule.
The release of the specification "will give Web developers a jump start on creating electronic commerce applications built on global standards," says Klaus-Dieter Naujok, chair of the ebXML initiative and chief technology officer at Santa Clara, Calif.-based Netfish Technologies Inc. EbXML is an 18-month international initiative to identify a technical basis for global implementation of standard XML documents to facilitate open trade between organizations regardless of size or location. The demonstration was intended to show how ebXML could streamline business processes among companies on a supply chain.
