GigaSpaces Technologies and CloudTran said they are combining their application development and database management services to provide millisecond processing of transactions in computing clouds.

The combination of CloudTran's transaction management middleware with GigaSpaces eXtreme Application Platform is designed to run large "database infrastructures" in public, private, and hybrid clouds, the companies said.

GigaSpaces XAP is a development platform for creating "virtualized" applications that run in widely dispersed data grids, involving terabytes of information in play. The company said its infrastructure" ensures high-speed processing with millisecond latency," while providing automatic transfer of processes to a new set of operating components in the event of a failure.

CloudTran allows rapid expansion of processing needs, by storing data across large numbers of computing devices. By using XAP as complementary infrastructure, CloudTran can process thousands of transactions each second, making it suitable for a broad range of online transaction processing tasks, such as payment processing, order entry, and inventory tracking.

“Enterprises need platforms that enable today’s data-focused applications in the cloud,” says Adi Paz, GigaSpaces Executive Vice President for Marketing and Business Development. “With XAP and CloudTran, CIOs and development teams have the tools necessary to deliver scalable, database-intensive applications within any environment.”
