In what the company hopes is a new market segment, MicroStrategy is rolling out a “starter kit” for companies looking for a more mobile way to implement business intelligence. The starter kits – Customer Analytics, Sales Analytics and Web Traffic Analytics – are reporting packages that can be integrated into a company's existing data warehouse and facilitate a faster deployment of enterprise-class analytic applications. The starter kits are independent of data schema and portable across multiple databases. The analytics do not include hard-coded objects and can be mapped directly to most relational data sources. Industry analysts who follow MicroStrategy note that the new product roll out tells the market that the company wants to return to its core competency of developing business intelligence software. “The starter kit is not a lot of new technology, but the roll out does demonstrate that MicroStrategy is getting back to its roots,” says Andrew Braunberg, senior analyst, data warehousing group, Current Analysis Inc.
