Membership is the key to any successful organization. DAMA's lifeblood and foremost resource is the activity of its members. It is through chapter meetings and DAMA conferences that data management practitioners meet to share knowledge, ideas, current practices and new techniques. Membership also allows us to make and maintain personal contacts which are so vital to our profession.

I joined the DAMA International board this year as the Vice President of Member Services. I am currently president of the Portland, Oregon, Chapter and have been a DAMA International liaison for the Portland and Phoenix chapters. I was very pleasantly surprised at the level of activity that I found in DAMA Member Services. In a short period, I have received requests from all over the United States on DAMA membership. Many cities in the U.S. do not have a local DAMA chapter. These members can still join DAMA as members-at-large. Internationally, we have members who reside all over the globe from Australia to Cuba.
