As Vice President of Industry Services and a new member of the DAMA International board this year, I am challenged to reactivate services that are meaningful and beneficial to members.

My goals will be to promote worldwide data management, industry benefits and services to members. To successfully meet this strategic goal, I plan to pursue these key activities:

  • Promote DAMA International influence with national standards committees.
  • Foster relationships with other professional societies.
  • Further DAMA International influence on software developers and vendors.
  • Coordinate international speakers.
  • Plan and negotiate vendor discounts.

The Speaker's List is beneficial information for attaining these goals. This list consists of contacts that are interested in speaking at chapter and/or member events. Currently, this list is updated daily and posted on the DAMA International Web site, A targeted goal is to increase the list's international content, visibility and usage, and ensure its accuracy. There is currently no fee for inclusion on this list.

Another item that will help meet the Industry Service strategy is a Data Management Industry Standards list. This list contains the standards that are most appropriate across the international spectrum. The user-friendly list will be distributed and updated annually.

Partnership Relationship templates are provided to various affiliates such as vendors, professional associations and research institutions. From these templates, we will capture core partnership benefits (e.g., discounts), scenarios, possibilities and core contact information. A Professional Association and Research Partnership List and an initial Vendor Discount List will be provided this term.

Other tactical accomplishments I will be pursuing include ER2001, DAMA International Workshop speaker facilitation to be held in Yokohama, Japan, in November 2001; International standard committee/board participation; and liaison communication with the Kentucky, Atlanta and Carolinas chapters.

Any input regarding speaker information, partnership requests and suggestions is welcome. Please send feedback to or

I look forward to serving as Vice President of Industry Services and aim to improve and enhance the benefits to our members within the industry service arena.
