As vice president of conference services for DAMA International, my main objective is to increase the size and scope of the DAMA International Symposium and the DAMA International Europe Conference to enable them to become the premier conferences for information management professionals. The 13th Annual DAMA International Symposium and the 5th Annual Meta Data Conference were held in March in Anaheim, California. This was the largest and most comprehensive symposium in the history of DAMA International and Wilshire Conferences.
Over the past three years, attendance at the annual symposium has nearly tripled. The March event was attended by nearly 1,000 information management professionals representing 24 countries. The program included four half-day workshops, eight full-day tutorials, two keynote presentations and 60 breakout sessions. The event facilitated the opportunity for extensive networking and sharing of experiences between attendees and leaders in the field. An 80-page trip report is available at www.wilshireconferences.com.
The 14th Annual DAMA International Symposium and 6th Annual Meta Data Conference will be held April 28 through May 2, 2002, in San Antonio, Texas. Information regarding the call for papers can be found at www.dama.org.
Last November, the first DAMA International Europe Conference was held in London. The event was colocated with the Meta Data Europe Conference. The Second Annual DAMA International Europe Conference will take place from October 29 to October 31, 2001. This year the event will be colocated with two other conferences, the Meta Data Europe Conference and Information Quality Europe Conference. This is another exciting opportunity for DAMA International to exchange experiences with an international audience and to have a meeting of international DAMA members and potential DAMA members.
The theme of the DAMA Conference is "Challenges Facing Data Resource Management." The focus of this conference is the practical aspects of data resource management, lessons learned about managing the data resource and success stories. Due to the success of last year's event, the DAMA Conference has been expanded to two conference tracks.
Plans are being made for the first DAMA International Australia Conference. This conference will take place October 17 through October 19, 2001, in Canberra, Australia. The theme of the conference is "Data and Information Management: Where to Next?" For further information regarding this conference and DAMA International, please visit www.dama.org.
