Good data management makes sense in any language. DAMA International, the Data Management Association, is moving into 1999 with a great new, truly international board of directors. While most of the affiliated DAMA chapters are in the United States, we do have four in Australia (Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney), two in Canada (British Columbia and Toronto) and two in Europe (Italy and Scandinavia). There is also a chapter in formation in London. Hence it is appropriate that our new board includes a Canadian and an Australian. The 1999 DAMA management team lines up as follows: President: Lynn Tenney Triadigm International
Vice President, Member Services: Daniel Moody Simsion, Bowles and Associates
Vice President, Chapter Services: Brett Champlin Allstate Insurance
Vice President, Conference Services: Burt Parker Paladin Integration Engineering
Vice President, Industry Services: Twyla Courtot Data Warehouse Architect
Vice President, Special Projects: Deborah Henderson Ontario Hydro
Vice President, Financial Services: Paul Hawes Bellcore
Vice President, Operations: Anne Marie Smith Rosenbluth International
Vice President, Communications: Marcia Rhode Integrated Strategies
Vice President, On-Line Services: Attila Finta Integrated Data Services
Past President: Adelle Bell Advanced Information Management Solutions

In addition to thirty-four affiliated chapters, DAMA International also supports sixty individuals in a Member-At-Large program. The objectives of this program are to provide networking, information exchange, discounts and other DAMA benefits to individuals who are not affiliated with a local chapter. While most of the Members-At-Large are from the United States, other countries represented in the membership include Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Portugal, Switzerland and Germany.

DAMA International goals in 1999 include establishment of a centralized membership database to provide better data management for our chapter and individual members and to increase the DAMA presence through more chapters and affiliations with other similar organizations.

One mechanism for expansion of the DAMA presence is the DAMA International Spring Symposium to be held April 19-22, 1999, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The theme of this symposium, co-hosted with the New Jersey chapter, is "Making Information Management Work." The focus is on practical insights and real-life experiences, sharing successful approaches as well as war stories. Keynote addresses will be given by international industry leaders such as Graeme Simsion, Larry English, Barbara von Halle and John Zachman. Presentations will focus on timely key topics such as enterprise data management, e-commerce, data quality, data warehousing and meta data management. Active DAMA members will receive a $250 discount on conference registration. For more information visit the New Jersey chapter Web site at www.dama-nj.org.
