Master data management has apparently become big news in social media. So much so, that there are now 160,000 members in groups tracked relevant to MDM, RDM and data governance.
That is the word from The MDM Institute, which, along with Information Management, will host the MDM & Data Governance Summit in New York on Nov. 8-10.
The MDM Institute recently did a deep dive into MDM interest in social media in preparation for the event, and found there has been a considerable uptick in job openings on the web, in social media that reference master data management and data governance, and in membership for MDM and data governance groups. The role of chief data officer is also enjoying an increase in interest.
As noted by Aaron Zornes, president of The MDM Institute, “certain of the groups remain more effective in messaging for MDM, RDM and DG solution providers than others … some are shills for vendors and/or recruiters.”
Zornes provided a list of the 10 most influential MDM-related groups on LinkedIn, using member data as the criteria. They range from the Informatica MDM group, which has 4,397 members this year, to the MDM – Master Data Management group, with 18,138 members.
“The top 4 MDM special interest groups in LinkedIn are each individually more influential than DAMA,” Zornes noted.
In a separate Top 10 of LinkedIn special interest groups, Zornes identified the fastest growing MDM-related groups. They ranged from Multi-Domain MDM, with 2,118 members and a 30 percent growth rate, to Data Quality and Data Governance Professionals (formerly DataQualityPro.com) with 3,738 members and a 68 percent growth rate.
In fairness, Zornes co-manages one of the top 10 groups, along with E. Allburn. The group is Master Data Management Pros, and enjoys a membership of 12,268 and a growth rate of 55 percent. That is the second fastest growth rate and the fourth largest group in terms of membership.
Zornes also identified the 10 largest vendor-specific MDM groups on LinkedIn, which is led by the Informatica MDM group. Informatica MDM holds a safe lead with 4,397 members. That is followed in the number two slot by Siebel Universal Customer Master – UCM, with 1,208 members.
