MapInfo today announced the release of the latest 2001 Expenditure Estimates, a marketing dataset that provides the retail, property and telecommunications sectors with vital information regarding consumer and business spending in the U.K.

The Expenditure Estimates are the result of a new collaboration between MapInfo Limited and Oxford Economic Forecasting (OEF), an independent forecasting and economic research provider.

Modeled from official data including the 2001 Census and the Family Expenditure survey, the Expenditure Estimates are designed for easy use with MapInfo Professional, the world’s leading software for mapping and geographic analysis and MapInfo TargetPro, a leading geo-demographic market analysis solution.

The new release of the U.K. 2001 Expenditure Estimates offers the most up- to-date data on Consumer and Business spending with a number of new features including:

  • New COICOP-based goods categories
  • Projected expenditure databases for each year
  • Updated business-based expenditure
  • Census output area level

By utilizing the Expenditure Estimates with TargetPro, retailers can analyse the spending capability of a certain region by particular goods categories, thereby assessing the market potential in that area. In addition, retailers can evaluate branch performance for site assessment and market planning, thereby ensuring it utilizes all opportunities to maximize revenues.
Property developers and consultants also use the Expenditure Estimates to analyze, predict and forecast demand for products and services in defined geographical areas around particular properties or towns. This is particularly useful in helping property consultants support future developments, enabling them to assess what types of development (i.e., out of town or town center) are suitable for certain areas and also to assess property prices, rental values or tenant mix in the proposed development.
