BACKGROUND: Virgin Vie At Home is a multichannel retailer of cosmetics and jewelry. Virgin Vie At Home offers customers the option of shopping at any of its 16 UK-based stores, on the Internet or at home. This direct-selling channel is incredibly successful, with in-home parties that boast sales equating to more than 86 percent of Virgin Vie At Home's total business.
PLATFORMS: Web-based solution.
PROBLEM SOLVED: We needed an easy-to-use and easy-to-access system. The first issue was finding a Web-based client that could be accessed from anywhere. LogiXML offers a licensing model that places no limits on the number of users. Supporting a base of 12,000+ users meant that a "cost per seat" model would simply not work for us. Another key objective was cutting down the number of individual queries that were required to meet the needs of the sales consultants. A dashboard implementation that pushes the most commonly requested data out to users pre-empts about 80 percent of the queries. The dashboard elements are easily understood by our nontechnical users. Our consultants can now share information quickly and easily and use this information to become better performers for the company.
PRODUCT FUNCTIONALITY: Logi 8's open, standards-based architecture made it easy for us to implement and use. It's a Web-based platform, which is ideal for our sales consultants using a wide range of Web-access devices such as the Smartphone and BlackBerry. The Virgin Vie At Home team is using the functionality in Logi 8 Info to deliver a complete managed reporting solution. Our corporate report developers are able to build powerful dashboards for personalized information at a glance. Logi 8 Info's analysis grid lets the development team maintain control over data tables, while putting the power of casual analysis into the hands of any user. Logi 8 Info also offers innovative heat maps that use size and color to let users visualize complex information easily.
STRENGTHS: The Logi 8 platform delivers a full range of reporting functionality. The dashboard is easy for even the novice user to operate. It's also nice to work with a product that has been built on a consistent architecture, which made implementation painless and enabled us to be up and running almost immediately. The product also features a dramatically lower price point, which is one of the most important factors.
WEAKNESSES: Logi 8 does not offer a desktop client option for users who prefer a nonbrowser interface.
SELECTION CRITERIA: Before choosing LogiXML, we undertook a detailed competitive evaluation of reporting products. LogiXML's combination of pure Web-based implementation, a great licensing model, an outstanding user interface and a highly productive report development toolset set it apart from the others.
DELIVERABLES: Currently we have developed a dashboard that provides key information for our consultants on their business and traffic lights any areas that might need their attention. Thanks to the flexible security, we are also using the same dashboard in our contact center, allowing our agents to view the dashboard as if they were logged in as the caller. For our developers, this means that where before they would have to develop and maintain two sets of screens, it can now be done in one. This also means that our consultants are provided with consistent information.
VENDOR SUPPORT: Before we commenced our project, we organized a few hours of Web-based training, which was more than sufficient to get all of our development team up and running. Along the way, we have needed to contact the LogiXML support team, and despite the time difference, we have always received timely and helpful responses. We have only been working with the LogiXML team for six months, but it is so exciting to see how far they have improved the product in this time and to think where it may be in another six months.
DOCUMENTATION: The quality and availability of the documentation is of the highest standard. The documentation is also cleverly integrated into the product, so you're never more than a click away from detailed support and examples on the component that you're currently working on. There are sample applications and starter kits, and if you really get stuck or are just looking for inspiration, the discussion forum is a great way to share ideas with other developers.
