September 2, 2009 – Kalido announced that it will sell a custom-built Netezza TwinFin data warehouse appliance optimized for the Kalido’s Information Engine and industry analytics and reporting solutions.

Kalido’s incorporation of Netezza and QlikView creates a powerful combination for the data warehousing industry, according to Boris Evelson, principal analyst for Forrester Research.
The Kalido KONA Information Appliance is an end-to-end analytics and reporting solution that works outside the traditional framework of an analytic warehouse, according Kalido’s release.
“There is only one vendor in this space who even partially automates their database, and that’s Kalido. They are a very unique vendor,” said Evelson. “But this automation does not come without a price; essentially you have to cut some corners with the data model. Some times the data model is not the most up-to-date at any one time, because Kalido has specific requirements and cannot afford to create the most optimized data structure.” Concerning up-to-date nature of Kalido's data models, Kalido president and CEO Bill Hewitt said, "The flexibility of our Business Information Modeler is a major strength of the Kalido Information Engine. BIM enables businesses to rapidly adapt to changing market conditions, fosters collaboration between business users and IT, and enforces business rules.”

Evelson emphasizes that by incorporating Netezza Kalido has partially solved any potential problems with the most optimized data structure. "Neteeza bypasses a large part of that problem because they do not require as many indexes as other databases," Evelson said.
Additionally, Kalido’s inclusion of QlikView is expanding the appliance’s analytic capabilities. Most business intelligence tools are limited by their underlying data models and only able to perform certain types of analyses, said Evelson. The only way to bypass analytic model limitations is by using in-memory analytics, like QlikView, which frees a user to analyze anything at anytime.
“Between theses two features, that’s a pretty powerful combination,” Evelson concluded.
The Kalido KONA Information Appliance includes the Netezza TwinFin data warehouse appliance, Kalido’s fully-governed information management platform, reports and dashboards powered by QlikView, industry-specific business information models, governance and stewardship application for master data, as well as prebuilt analytics, according to the company release.
