January 11, 2011 – Jaspersoft announced the latest version of its open source business intelligence suite, with a new, Web application-style user interface and increased integration capabilities.

Jaspersoft 4 features Web-based architecture for users, with a separation of the content and presentation layers based on online website standards, according to a news release on the product announcement. Customizations are enabled through cascading style sheets  and also facilitate integration of the BI release with existing Web applications.

User-oriented sites like the blogging Web design page WordPress were part of the inspiration for the new open source and Web template in Jaspersoft 4, moving away from the “complex” coded and more expensive customizations available in previous version, says Mike Boyarski, Jaspersoft senior product marketing manager. Boyarski says user interface and integration enhancements create an end-to-end BI application builder, with the possibility of numerous upgrades and alterations contributed by the company’s open source community.

Mark Mahn, developer for not-for-profit organization Virgin Money, said in a news release with the product announcement that the new end-to-end capabilities provide add-ons to a “compelling and useful product.”

“Delivering tailored user interfaces that can be branded for each of our charitable organizations while maintaining our multi-tenant SaaS architecture is a brilliant new capability,” Mahn said.

The new release will be available to both commercial users and Jaspersoft’s 175,000 open source community members, and is delivered on-premise, in layered SaaS environments or in the cloud.
