Q:

Is there a rule concerning aggregates tables mirroring the fact tables? Will most OLAP tools be able to handle the situation when summary facts are different than fact tables?

A:

Chuck Kelley’s Answer: I am not sure exactly what you mean by mirroring the fact table. Aggregate (or summary) tables have a different granularity of data and different dimensions, and mirroring is about duplicating the data. Now, if you asking if the numbers should add up, then I would say "Most definitely."
