Intrado, a provider of 9-1-1 emergency communication services and technology, has launched a new cloud-based service called Intrado Co-location and Transport (I-CAT).

I-CAT provides co-location, hosting and secure, private network transport services in a package designed specifically for the public safety sector, the company says.

The service “meets public-safety-grade requirements for network availability, system performance, service reliability and security,” Ken Burton, director of product management for Intrado, said in a statement. “I-CAT directly connects our partners’ applications and services with public safety agencies, allowing our customers to focus on their businesses while Intrado manages the underlying networks, data centers, hardware and software.”

Intrado, a subsidiary of West Corp., has helped develop the nation’s 9-1-1 network and each year supports the delivery of more than 260 million calls to 9-1-1 centers across North America. The company says the I-CAT cloud service will give its partners an opportunity to offer their solutions to public safety agencies via a cloud-based platform.

The service launch comes at a time when a growing number of government entities are leveraging cloud services.
