Intel Corporation and SAS, a provider of business intelligence and analytic software, announced a joint effort to help users expand business intelligence throughout the enterprise, using technology from SAS running on Intel-based clients and servers via the Intel Itanium 2 processor and Intel Centrino mobile technology.

This new effort will employ guidelines from Intel's Mobilized Software Initiative to extend the benefits of the SAS Intelligence Architecture. With wireless connectivity, the intelligence that SAS extracts from customer information can be used when and where it is needed, regardless of network connection status, thus moving decision making closer to customer interaction points and allowing users to make faster, better informed decisions with confidence.

Intel's Mobilized Software Initiative applies architectural concepts similar to offline-networked messaging to a broader range of applications. This allows many more solutions to be used productively, regardless of the status of the network connection. SAS and Intel are working together to apply these concepts in four categories:

  • Offline data management – To provide a consistent user experience allowing business users to continue working and be productive even when disconnected.
  • Seamless connectivity – To dynamically manage changes in network connection types, providing the optimal connection without requiring user intervention.
  • Multiple platforms – To allow applications using standards like XML to run on virtually any operating environment.
  • Power and performance management – To conserve battery life and deliver optimal computation and I/O performance without the need for power cords or network cables.

SAS delivers business intelligence through the unique SAS Intelligence Architecture, an integrated suite of analytic applications and technology solutions. The Intelligence Architecture is the foundation for seamlessly integrating SAS into any organization, regardless of computing environment. It provides a single, cohesive platform for transforming data from any source into intelligence that drives confident decisions.
SAS' business intelligence solutions take advantage of the SAS Intelligence Architecture to deliver accurate, consolidated enterprise information. When supplemented by the mobility and power of Intel Centrino Mobile Technology and Intel Itanium 2 processors, SAS and Intel are delivering great value to the customer. As Janet Heslop's researchers at the Cornell Institute of Social and Economic Research recently found, they could "not only speed through data analysis faster but ask questions they couldn't ask before." With Intel's wireless technology, they can also access this data anytime, anywhere.

Representing Intel's best technology for mobile PCs, Intel Centrino Mobile Technology includes the Intel Pentium M processor, related chipsets and 802.11 wireless network components that have been optimized, tested and validated to work together. The Intel Itanium 2 processor is a 64-bit chip with industry-leading enterprise price- performance. The Itanium 2 processor is broadly deployed in scientific computing environments, and is growing in commercial high-performance computing and enterprise installations.
