Q:

If a given DW field/element/column can be updated from several operational sources, it would seem that the risk of erroneous data is heightened. Is this true and if so is there an authoritative source that I can quote?

A:

Clay Rehm’s Answer: This certainly is true. As far as an authoritative source, I am not sure I can find one. In the field of DW it is just "common sense." If a field/element/column is updated from only one operational source, there is still a risk of erroneous data. Was there testing done by the business community in the extract, transform and load? Was quality assurance performed on the process that copies that data?
